What is a class Action Lawsuit?
A class action
is a lawsuit where a large group of people are harmed by the same actions of a defendant.
In many cases, large corporations cause economic damage to people in an amount that
does not justify one person bringing a claim. However, when that same injury is
perpetrated against hundreds or thousands of people, the most efficient way to seek
recovery is through a class action. A single individual or a small number of victims are
able to file on behalf of all victims.
In most cases, all victims who will be affected by a decision will be notified
that an action has been started. They must then be given an opportunity to either
"opt out" of the class action, or to join it and appear and present their side of the
case. The result of the class action will be binding on all parties in the case.
When improper conduct impacts many, a class action may be the best way to address
that wrong. Our lawyers have been involved in class actions against auto dealerships,
retail stores and insurance companies.

Common Examples of Class Action
- Improper conduct of a company that intentionally misstated their
earnings in order to increase the stock price.
- Fraudulently charging purchasers for a product or
service
- Chemical spill in a town that harmed the local water system.
- A drug with harmful side effects that caused a similar injury
to a large group of people.
- Employees at a company who have been improperly denied overtime benefits or other employees
that have experienced similar discrimination.
These are just some of the examples of common cases that end up being class actions.
