Jury Returns $625,000 Verdict in Dog Wash Spill

Amount: $625,000
Court: Court of Common Pleas, Cuyahoga County, Ohio
Plaintiff’s Counsel: Dana M. Paris & Jordan D. Lebovitz

Our client, a 48-year-old registered nurse, was awarded $625,000 after she suffered a complete tear of her hamstring when she fell in water at a Pet Supplies Plus store. The water was located in front of the endcap of an aisle, and could not be seen until our client rounded the aisle. The water came from the self-serve dog wash located at the end of the aisle. The dog wash was being cleaned out by an employee of Pet Supplies Plus with a high-powered hose at the time our client entered the store. The doorway to the dog wash was left open, allowing the water to migrate into the retail portion of the store. The store manager testified it was known that water could leak out of the dog wash and into the retail portion of the store, even with the door closed. The jury was unanimous in its verdict.
