Details Emerging About Recent Seattle Helicopter Accident

by | March 24th, 2014

Experts will attest that helicopters can present a certain set of risks to safety due to their distinctive mechanisms. In fact, data from the Helicopter Association International shows that the number of fatal helicopter accidents that occur in the United States in the past five years has steadily risen.

A Helicopter Accident that occurred last week in Seattle highlighted these dangers. Reports indicate the crash happened last Tuesday morning on a rooftop helipad near the city’s iconic Space Needle.

A story from KOMO News stated witnesses heard a strange sound coming from the helicopter just moments before it went into a counterclockwise spin and crashed in the street. Two people on board the aircraft were declared dead at the scene, while one man on the ground was badly burned as a result of the crash.

Although the National Transportation Safety Board has not released official cause for the crash, some experts have stated the circumstances surrounding the crash may point to a malfunctioning tail rotor on the aircraft. An official cause for the crash is expected to be included in a final report on the incident that is expected in several months.
