Pilot Training Requirement Raised Sixfold as U.S. House Passes Legislation

The U.S. House and Senate passed legislation that will require pilots to have 1,500 hours of flight time, surpassing the current 250-hour minimum, which has now been sent to President Barack Obama to be potentially signed into law. Supporters of this legislation include pilot unions and relatives of victims of the deadly February 2009 crash near Buffalo, New York, among others.
