March 30, 2012 A construction worker in Kent, Ohio, was injured Tuesday after an accident on a job site. According to the Record Pub, the accident happened at 10:45 a.m. at the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority’s (PARTA) Kent Central Gateway transit center. A spokesman for the Kent Fire Department, Chief James Williams, stated that morning the department received a call of an injured worker at the construction site. They arrived to find that a worker had accidentally stepped between a concrete slab and a piece of machinery and had gotten caught in between the two. Rescue crews were eventually able to free the man and took him to Akron City Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. The Cleveland office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was called to the scene of the accident to begin an investigation into the incident as work continued on the project. PARTA’s director of marketing, Frank Hairston, said of the accident, “We at PARTA are deeply concerned about the accident that occurred today at the Kent Central Gateway work site…PARTA is committed to safety and will participate in a comprehensive investigation and cooperate fully with the author to determine possible causes and prevent future accidents.” The Ohio Workers’ Compensation Lawyers with Nurenberg, Paris, Heller & McCarthy would like to wish the injured worker a speedy and full recovery from the injuries he sustained in this unfortunate accident.
