Airplane Emergency Information

In case of an aviation accident, take precaution, pay attention, and form a mental plan so you will be prepared.

In the event of an emergency, you should be aware of the following:

  • Decompression
If the oxygen masks are deployed, pull the mask toward you and place it over your nose and mouth. Then assist others around you with their masks.
  • Evacuation slides
First, remove any shoes with heels or any other garments, such as belts, that could puncture the slide. Place your arms across your chest with your elbows in and jump feet first into the center of the slide.
  • Floatation devices
Typically, your seat cushion can be used as a floatation device, and sometimes there are life vests located under your seat.
  • Fire or smoke
If there is fire or smoke on the plane during the flight, move away from the source of the fire and if possible, place a wet paper towel or handkerchief over your nose and mouth. If the fire occurs while you’re on the ground, stay low and use the lighting in the aisle to guide you to the closest exit.
  • Medical emergency
If you or another passenger gets ill on the plane, notify the flight attendant immediately. Flight attendants are trained to provide some emergency assistance.
