Caring for Kids
Caring for Kids, Inc. is a private, non-profit adoption, foster care, and birth parent services agency licensed in the state of Ohio. Caring for Kids believes that each child, regardless of gender, race, nationality or special need deserves the safety and security of a healthy and loving family. The experienced and professional team at Caring for Kids is committed to providing the most complete and compassionate services to birth families, adoptive families, and foster families.
Caring for Kids was founded in 1995 by former foster parents. The agency began as a foster care only agency, but soon saw the need to find permanent forever families for children in the permanent custody of the child welfare system and began completing adoptions of children waiting in foster care. In 2010, Caring for Kids expanded and began the private infant adoption program to serve members of the community that would like to make an adoption plan for their child. In 2011, Caring for Kids partnered with the Dave Thomas Foundation to employ Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiters to find permanency for some of the hardest to place children living in foster care. There are currently 5 recruiters at the agency who serve some of Cleveland’s most vulnerable and forgotten youth who are in need of permanency. In 2014, additional birth parent post-adoption support services were added. In 2017, behavioral health services were introduced. All these programs continue to grow as the need in Northeast Ohio is tremendous and still climbing. Today, Caring for Kids serves 300+ children annually plus countless families!
The Caring for Kids team is available to guide families, answer questions, and offer support before, during, and after the process to adopt or foster. No question is too small for them to answer! Remarkably, many of Caring for Kids’ staff members have personally placed a child for adoption, adopted and/or fostered children, or were adopted themselves, allowing staff to provide families with first hand insight that is invaluable to families going through the process.
There is an enormous need in Northeast Ohio for more services like those offered by Caring for Kids. More foster homes are needed. More trauma informed counseling is needed, especially by mental health professionals with experience in adoption. More support is needed for birth mothers. Unfortunately, new programs, or growing existing ones to meet the current need, costs money which is not easy to come up with for non-profits. Grant funding is an important component of being able to meet the needs identified within the community.
Caring for Kids changes lives through the services they offer. Your vote for Caring for Kids will help change a lifetime!
