Several grocery stores, including Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Target have recalled Sunland peanut butter and various nut products from their stores, reports Ohio's WKYZ.
The FDA announced that on October 12, Sunland, Inc., expanded its ongoing recall to include raw and roasted shelled and in-shell peanuts sold in quantities from 2 ounces to 50 pounds.
There are now 30 illnesses in 19 states that can be traced to the product, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Sunland, Inc., a New Mexico company, sells its nuts and peanut butters to large groceries and other food distributors around the country.
The products have been recalled under multiple brand names after salmonella illnesses were linked directly to Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butters, one of the many brands manufactured by Sunland.
Most people infected with salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection.
In some people, the salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics.
Most at risk are children younger than 5 years old, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. It is estimated that approximately 400 persons die each year with acute salmonellosis.

Accurately diagnosing patients gives doctors a chance to come up with treatment plans to manage their patients’ symptoms and help them get better, including prescribing medications, recommending surgery, and creating lifestyle modifications. However, […]
