The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued eight safety violations to a North Jackson, Ohio, aluminum plant. The citations were given after an investigation was launched into the death of an employee due to Catastrophic Injuries sustained in a workplace accident.
According to a story from The Columbus Dispatch, the accident occurred in October of last year when a rack of hot aluminum parts fell and crushed the 21-year-old victim.
The OSHA investigation that followed found that the facility and its management acted negligently in failing to protect workers from dangers in their surrounding environment. Further more this negligence was preformed with willful disregard and indifference to safety.
Some of the violations included exposing workers to dangers of hot metal racks, not allowing safe clearance for workers at heating ovens, and failing to provide personal protective equipment to workers. The company also did not have written protocols and policies in place to protect workers from dangers.
The company is now listed as a serious offender and will be subject to several follow-up inspections and fines of up to $175,000. The company has denied any wrongdoing.
