A 70-year-old Dayton woman is facing charges in connection to a case of Ohio Nursing Home Abuse. Reports indicate the incident occurred in March 2012 at the Arbors at Dayton Subacute and Rehabilitation Center located on Albany Street in Dayton, Ohio.
According to an article released by WHIOTV News, the woman was an activity assistant at the facility for a period of five years before she was accused of striking a male patient. An administrator at the facility, Wes Ramsey, explained that when the situation came to his attention, an investigation was launched which determined the allegations to be accurate. At that point, the woman was relieved of her duties at the facility and the case was handed over to authorities with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office for prosecution.
On Monday, May 13, the woman was indicted for her actions and is facing a single felony charge of patient abuse. She was arraigned on the charge yesterday.
Incidents like this leave many citizens wondering how they can protect their loved ones from abuse and neglect they may suffer at the hands of a caregiver.
The Cleveland Personal Injury Attorneys with Nurenberg, Paris, Heller & McCarthy say being active in the care of a loved one by visiting often and asking plenty of questions is one of the best ways to ensure their safety. Checking for signs of abuse, such as unexplained bruises, on a regular basis is also effective.
