Most motorists are aware of the dangers distractions from cellphones pose behind the wheel of vehicles. The Ohio Car Accident Lawyers with Nurenberg, Paris, Heller & McCarthy explain that what most drivers fail to recognize is that there are numerous other distractions besides a phone lurking in a vehicle.
Researchers have shown that some of the most common distractions behind the wheel can include eating or drinking, entertainment systems, and GPS navigation units. Now, according to an article from Better Roads, a team of researchers from Ohio State University is looking into determining how these distractions affect one’s ability to safely drive a vehicle.
The study will collect data, such as heart rates and eye movement, from participants as they operate a driving simulator. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials hope to use the findings to support calls for legislation reform that would protect motorists from these particular dangers.
The new laws will call for automotive manufacturers to test the safety of stereos and GPS systems by using them is a simulator similar to the one in use in the most current study being conducted.
The law firm’s team of Ohio Personal Injury Lawyers is aware of the serious risks distracted driving can pose and are hopeful the research being conducted can be used to better protect travelers from these serious dangers.
