It’s summer, and for many residents of Ohio, that means spending time in the sun. Being exposed to the sun's harmful UV rays can be dangerous to your skin and has been linked to causing skin cancer. While using sunscreen is an effective way to block these rays, there are questions about whether or not aerosol versions of the product can present dangerous risks, and possible product liability issues are currently being investigated.
An article from Consumer Reports indicates the U.S Food and Drug Administration is currently investigating what harm could be caused to the lungs and other parts of the body by breathing in spray-on sunscreens. Until conclusions are drawn, experts are urging the public not to use spray-on sunscreens on children. Furthermore, adults should not use such products on their faces.
Another danger associated with aerosol-based sunscreens is the risk of a fire or burn injury if using the product near an open flame, such as a grill or bonfire. Several reports have been made of the product igniting on a user’s skin when applied near fire.
