Decedent, who was obese and sedentary, developed a pulmonary embolism which was correctly diagnosed in the ER. The hospital placed her on inadequate heparin levels and failed to monitor her PTT levels. She died 18 hours after admission due to pulmonary embolism. Plaintiff contended the clot was fresh and would not have developed if adequate heparin had been delivered to our client. Defendant contended the clot was old, and therefore additional heparin would not have mattered.
