Our client, a single, 49-year-old woman with no children, had a Pap in July 1996 interpreted as “reactive associated with inflammation.” The Pap was repeated in August 1996 and interpreted as “normal.” In fact, it should have been interpreted as HGSIL or carcinoma in situ. She was ultimately diagnosed in June 1997 with Stage IIIB cervical cancer and died in January 1999. The Defendant claimed that the Pap smears were not misread.
