Childbirth is one of the most common reasons for hospitalization in the United States today. Despite the frequency of infant deliveries in the American medical industry, mistakes are often made that can cause patients serious harm. In fact, studies have shown that in 2006 alone, approximately 157,700 mothers and infants were afflicted with a birth injury during delivery.
These numbers may leave you wondering what some of the most common causes of birth injury are. One government agency has conducted studies and collected data in hopes of providing such answers.
The Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research explains that one factor that can increase the chances of a birth injury is the use of certain medical instruments during vaginal delivery. Their experts found that out of 1,000 vaginal deliveries using instruments, a birth injury would be reported in 160.5 of those cases.
Unfortunately though, most birth injuries are the result of a doctor’s failure to exercise reasonable care. This can include acts of negligence or failing to meet the standards of care for a certain procedure that takes place before, during, or after delivery.
Regardless of the cause of you or your child’s birth injury, you have rights that need to be protected. The Ohio personal injury lawyers with the law firm of Nurenberg, Paris, Heller & McCarthy say that speaking with a qualified legal representative is one of the best ways to protect those rights.

After a crash involving only two vehicles, it’s easy for the injured parties to know who to file an injury claim against—the person who was negligently driving the other vehicle and crashed into them. But who is at fault after a crash involving three, four, five, or even dozens of vehicles? Multi-vehicle crashes are […]
