An Ohio woman has filed a Yaz® Drug Injury Lawsuit against the maker of the medication due to complications and adverse health affects she experienced from taking the product.
Yaz® is an oral contraceptive that was introduced to the market several years ago by drug manufacturer, Bayer. The medication works by releasing the hormone progestin drospirenone into a woman’s bloodstream; however, studies have shown that ingesting this hormone can result in elevated potassium levels in the body, which is clinically known as hyperkalemia. The condition can cause the flow of blood to slow and can result in blood clots forming that can travel to vital organs in the body. When these clots settle, strokes, heart attacks, and embolisms can occur.
According to an article from Injury Lawyer News, this is precisely what happened to the victim form Ohio who has filed suit. She claims that after taking the medication, she developed a condition known as DVT, which is when a blood clot forms and gets caught in an organ. She claims the company failed to provide ample warning of this risk on the packaging of the drug. Furthermore, the lawsuit contests Bayer was negligent in releasing the drug and concealed the known dangers of the medication from consumers.
The Cleveland Personal Injury Lawyers with Nurenberg, Paris, Heller & McCarthy hope that a decision in the case will bring a sense of closure to the drug injury victim.
